Capt Hanse Singh Narendra

(b. Nov. 25, 1928)

Capt Narendra, who joined Air-India in 1956, was one of our able Commanders. A check-pilot, he had over 20,000 hours of flying experience. He was well-known as an extrovert with a lively sense of humour.

Capt Satwinder Singh Bhinder

(b. Nov. 30, 1943)

Capt Bhinder came to Air-India in October 1977. He had over 7,000 hours of flying experience. He was one of our young pilots who was known for his devotion to duty and professionalism.

Dara Dumasia

(b. Oct. 10, 1927)

He joined Air-India in 1954 and had over 14,000 hours to his credit as Flight Engineer. A quiet and conscientious person, he liked nothing better than reading during his off duty hours.

Sampath Lazar

(b. Nov. 1, 1940)

Joined Air-India in 1963 and was promoted as Flight Purser in 1969 and Inflight Supervisor in 1983. A dedicated worker, he took considerable interest in cabin crew welfare. He was a former President and a founder member of the Cabin Crew Association. He was accompanied by his wife and daughter.

Pamela Dinshaw

(b. Jul. 25, 1958)

A pleasant and conscientious worker, she was with the Hotel Oberoi Towers before joining Air-India in 1978. She was fond of swimming and reading. She and her husband were part of the cabin crew on the flight.

Rima Bhasin

(b. Dec. 14, 1962)

Reading, music and travelling were her hobbies. She joined Air-India in 1984 after obtaining her B.A. degree with honours from Delhi. She was a guide and liaison officer for the Special Organising Committee and also a Protocol Assistant for the Non-Aligned Meet.

Jamshed Dinshaw

(b. Feb. 20, 1955)

He was married to Air Hostess Pamela who was also on the flight as a member of the crew. Joined Air-India in 1978 after completing his Inter Science Examination. He lost his sister in the 1978 crash, but this tragedy in no way dampened his spirits.

Shyama Gaonkar

(b. Mar. 14, 1957)

A Master of Arts with first class from the Bangalore University, Ms Gaonkar took great interest in painting, sports and craft work, She joined Air-India as an Air Hostess in 1980.

Sangeeta Ghatge

(b. Oct. 24, 1956)

A keen Oddissi dancer, Ms Ghatge also took part in dramatic activities while in college. A graduate in Arts from the Bombay University, she joined Air-India in 1981. She was well liked by her colleagues.

Leena Kaj

(b. Jul. 28, 1959)

A quiet and dedicated worker. she joined Air-India in 1980 after passing her B.A. from the Bombay University. She had a very friendly attitude towards her colleagues.

Neli Kashipri

(b. Mar. 1, 1955)

Always smiling and gentle, Mr Kashipri was with Air-India since 1977. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974 and also held a law degree. His younger brother was also on the flight.

Sharon Lasrado

(b. June 20, 1962)

She was interested in music and was a graduate from the Bombay University. Joined Air-India in 1983. Sharon’s colleagues remember her as a very charming person.

Rita Phansekar

(b. June 20, 1959)

A quiet and shy person, she was with Air-India since 1980. She had planned to leave Air-India to join her husband in the USA.

Suseela Raghavan

(b. Sept. 9, 1961)

A first class graduate with a Science degree from Madras, Ms Raghavan was a keen essay writer and took part in essay competitions. She joined Air-India in 1984.

Elaine Rodricks

(b, April 21, 1953)

Before joining Air-India in 1977, She was with the Hotel President. Centaur Hotel and Khambatta Aviation. She was praised for once administering medical aid to a dying passenger.

Bimal Saha

(b. August 16, 1947)

He passed his B.A. in 1971, M.A. in 1976 and obtained a Law degree in 1977. He had a brilliant academic career and joined Air-India in 1977.

Karan Seth

(b. Dec. 8, 1946)

Joined Air-India in 1970 after a brilliant academic career. He held a Bachelor of Science degree and M.A. degree in Economics. His colleagues describe him as “full of spirits and a willing worker.”

Sunil Shukla

(b. Oct. 3, 1951)

Having joined Air-India in 1975, Mr Shukla married Irene Fernandes, a hostess who was also on the same flight. He is the son of Mr Sydney Shukla, who recently retired as Manager-Simulator.

Surendra Singh

(b. Dec. 14. 1941)

An active crew member, Mr Singh joined Air-India in 1964. His wife and his son were travelling with him.

Inder Thakur

(b. Feb. 24, 1950)

Besides being a versatile purser, Mr Thakur was a professional film actor and an internationally known model. He joined Air-India in 1972. Travelling with him were his wife, and his child.

Kanaya Thakur

(b. March 15, 1939)

He was a former Vice President of the Cabin Crew Association. He joined Air-India in 1971 and was well liked by his colleagues.

Noshir Vaid

(b. Feb. 1, 1951)

Passed his Inter Science examination in 1972 and joined Air-India in 1977. He was a member of the Managing Committee of the Cabin Crew Association.

Shyla Aurora

(b. Oct. 4, 1957)

Joined Air-India as an Air Hostess on November 15, 1979. She passed her Inter Science examination and completed a five-year language course in New Delhi prior to joining Air-India. She was fond of music and painting.

Freddy Balsara

(b. Nov. 17, 1955)

Passed his Inter Commerce Examination before joining Air-India in 1977. He was known for his pleasant personality and was a conscientious member of the staff.

Chand Bhat

(b. Dec. 1, 1957)

A graduate in Arts from the Bombay University, she took part in Dramatic activities. Ms Bhat has been an Air Hostess since 1979. She was with her husband and child on the flight.

Leena Bisen

(b. October 26, 1955)

Having joined Air-India in {977 in the Commercial Department, Ms Bisen was on deputatio to the PR Division from 1982. Vibrant and enthusiastic, she was closely associated with the Magic Carpet. Namaskaar, Himalayan Car Rally and the selection of Inflight Hindi Movies.

Suman Khera

(b. July 5, 1956)

Was a Senior Typist Clerk in the Commercial Department at Delhi. She joined Air-India in 1977 after obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the Delhi University. She was on board with her daughter.

Marazban Patel

(b. Jan. 11, 1928)

Started his career in Air-India as a mechanic in 1955. He was promoted as Senior Technician in 1966, as Chargehand in 1967 and as Foreman in 1979. He was due to retire from the services of the Corporation in January next year.

Irene Shukla

(b. Oct. 26, 1954)

Became Air Hostess in 1980 after a stint as Stenographer in Air-India. Married to Sunil Shukla, she was on maternity leave.

Anne Travasso

(b. July 26, 1940)

Was Personal Assistant to Dy Director-Personnel. She joined Air-India in 1970 and she was promoted as Sr. Stenographer in 1978. She was accompanied by her husband and two children.
