In July 2007, the Vancouver memorial was unveiled at a redeveloped playground in Stanley Park. Families and friends of victims were accompanied by Vancouver’s mayor, BC Premier, and Public Safety Minister for the memorial’s opening.
The Vancouver Memorial was envisioned as “a tribute to the 82 children who lost their lives”(“Air India Memorial Unveiled”).
The memorial playground, which includes a curved wall inscribed with the victims’ names, was awarded the 2018 National Merit Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects.
